How do I connect to a Network printer?

  1. Select "Start", "Settings", then "Printers".

  2. Click the icon labeled "Add Printer" to open the add printer wizard then click "Next" at the welcome screen to start the wizard.

  3. You'll be asked to specify the location of the new printer -- select "Network Printer" then click "Next."

  4. Next, the wizard will ask you how you want to locate a printer. By default, the wizard will have selected "Find a printer in the Directory." Because our network is still transitioning to Active Directory, most of our printers aren't yet listed in the directory. To find a printer, you must choose the second option, "Type the printer name...." as shown here.

  5. If you already know the name of the printer you want to connect to, you can simply type that name in the box labeled "Name." These are the names and locations of the public printers on campus:

  6. If you aren't sure of the name of a printer you want to connect to, click "Next." A list of available printers will be displayed:

  7. Scroll through the list to locate the printer you want to use, select it from the list, then click "Next."

  8. Tell Windows whether or not you want to set the newly selected printer as your default printer, then click "Next."

  9. The final window in the wizard displays information about the printer you've selected. If you're satisfied with your selection, click "Finish" to connect to the printer.
