The History Program announces a valuable opportunity for history majors and minors: internships. Internships offer students the opportunity to practice history outside an academic setting - in a museum, national or state park, or historical society, for example. History interns might assist curators in handling artifacts or preparing museum displays, work with archivists to catalog and organize archival materials, prepare educational materials for display or publication, or lead tours and interpretive activities for visitors. Each internship is designed to complement the interests and abilities of the student and the needs of the host site. Internships are eligible for college credit (see course description).
Recent internship sites have included:
Fort Smith National Historic Site, Fort Smith, AR
Historic Arkansas Museum, Little Rock, AR
Fort Delaware State Park, Delaware
Please note that internships are not limited to the above sites. If you have a specific historical interest or geographical location in mind, we will work to find an appropriate site.
Internships offer you a great chance to explore career options, improve your historical skills, add an impressive line to your resume, and have fun! If you would like more information, please contact Dr. Judy Walden.
